Tarah's Review:

Holy cow! I don't know what I was expecting when I started this book, but my expectations were blown away! I haven't come across a book that I loved liked this in a long time. I hope Annette K. Larsen writes another one soon. Ella was a fantastic character. She was strong and sympathetic. She was able to figure out who she was and try to help others. Gavin was everything I look for in a male lead, and you just fall in love with him a little bit. Ella makes moral choices that are hard, and may not make her happy, but they are selfless choices, and there isn't enough of that in today's society. The only thing I wish was different was either more explanation about one of her sisters behavior, or a conclusion to it. I can't wait to read this book again.  I'd definitely recommend it to others, and add it to my collection.

About Author Annette K. Larsen:

annetteI was born in Utah, but grew up in Flagstaff Arizona and St. Louis Missouri, the fifth of seven children. I attended college at Southern Virginia University and Brigham Young University where I studied English and Theater. I now live in Idaho with my husband and four children.

I have Charlotte Bronte to thank for the courage to write novels. After being bombarded with assigned reading about women who justified abandoning either their families or their principles in the name of love, I had the great fortune of reading Jane Eyre. And that was it: finally a heroine who understood that being moral and making the right choice was hard, and sometimes it hurt, but it was still worth it. After rereading it several years later, I realized that if I wanted more books to exist with the kinds of heroines I admired, then I might as well write a few myself. My books are about women who face hard choices, who face pain and rejection and often have to sacrifice what they want for what is right. The consequences are often difficult or unpleasant, but it the end, doing what’s right will always be worth it.

I believe there is no substitute for good writing or good chocolate. Fortunately, one often leads to the other.

Review: Unexpected by Karen Tuft

Unexpected by Karen Tuft

Book Description:

Eleven years ago, Ross McConnell was devastated by the betrayal of the woman of his dreams. Time does not heal all wounds, and after more than a decade, Ross is no closer to finding love. When his well-meaning family attempts to play matchmaker, he concedes by creating a list detailing his perfect mate: A member of the Church. Beauty-queen looks. College educated. Never married. Perhaps he’ll give love another try, if such perfection exists . . .

Natalie Forrester is no stranger to heartache. After two failed marriages, the beautiful single mother of three is determined to make it on her own. Without a college degree, she starts at the bottom: working as a housekeeper may not be glamorous, but it’s her first exhilarating step toward independence. And Natalie’s most recent cleaning job is ideal—the guy is always out of town, and the pay will go a long way toward supporting her missionary son. Maybe luck is finally on her side.

And then Ross and Natalie meet . . . and meet again. And following a series of awkward encounters, Ross is shocked by his growing attraction for this woman. Natalie couldn’t be farther from his ideal woman, and she is firm in her determination to keep her heart closed to love. But as their tenuous friendship develops and deepens, will the unlikely pair have the courage to set aside the disappointments of the past to catch hold of a bright new future?

Review:

Unexpected by Karen Tuft is a cute and clean "Cinderella" story. You have your handsome, rich, "prince", and your damsel in distress (all modernized, of course). I like how Tuft had them meet briefly and then meet again years later.

There is some predictability, and the ending is somewhat rushed, but the main characters were very likeable, and it is a sweet story.

Fans of LDS romantic fiction that like a fun and easy read are likely to enjoy Unexpected.

Blog Tour: Written on Our Hearts by Emily Freeman

Written on Our Hearts by Emily Freeman
Book description:
If you have ever found the Old Testament intimidating, you're not alone. The less-familiar history, themes, and language, coupled with the length of the book, make it a difficult read for many. But author Emily Freeman loves the Old Testament, and as she shares some of the wonderful things she has learned in her study of this book of scripture, you will find yourself coming to love it too.
Written on Our Hearts is not a commentary or an intensive doctrinal study. Instead, Emily writes about the stories of the Old Testament, stories of trusting and overcoming and enduring and believing. Within these stories are all kinds of applications for the challenges we face today.
"There will come a moment in your life," the author says, "when you or someone you love will struggle with a challenge so great you will wonder how you will make it through. In that moment you will long to better understand the Savior's role as the Deliverer, and to do that you must go to the book of scripture that describes that role the best—the Old Testament."
Discover the delivering power of the Lord yourself in the pages of this book—and experience the scriptures in a new, more personal way!
Review:

A few years ago I decided to read the Old Testament. I had studied it in a seminary class and Sunday school classes, but reading from cover to cover seemed like a good goal. I started out pretty well, but things started getting . . . well, really weird. There is some crazy stuff in the Old Testament! Not to mention some really confusing parts. I'm not proud of it, but I gave up.

When I heard about Written on Our Hearts I thought it would be a great way to finish what I started. I was thinking it would be more like a study guide, but it contains insights Emily has had from her own study. Even though I thought it would be different, I appreciated this more than a study guide. It's not the type of book I'd sit down and read cover to cover, but it is well written, and really makes a reader think. Seeing how Emily "likens the scriptures unto" herself is inspiring (especially with difficult books of scripture).

I really like how each thought is covered in a few pages. This is a great book for when you just have a few minutes and are looking for a spiritual thought or inspiration.

About Author Emily Freeman:

Emily Freeman took her first creative writing class in high school and has loved writing ever since. She finds great joy in studying the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. Her deep love of the scriptures comes from a desire to find their application in everyday life. She is the author of several books, including The Ten Virgins; 21 Days Closer to Christ; and The Promise of Enough. There is nothing Emily enjoys more for breakfast than a bowl of vanilla ice cream, raspberries, and chocolate chips. Other favorites include parades, vacations, firework displays, and going for a long walk with a good friend. Emily and her husband, Greg, live in Lehi, Utah, with their four children, whom she adores.

Blog Tour: Carla Kelly's Christmas Collection

Blog Tour
Carla Kelly's Christmas Collection

Book Description:

Come explore Regency London with Carla Kelly! This collection features four stories that will warm your heart with Christmas cheer: "The Christmas Ornament," "Make a Joyful Noise," "An Object of Charity," and "The Three Kings." Filled with romance and a touch of humor, these stories are sure to find a place in your heart and remind you that Christmas is a time for love.

Review:

It's  never too early to start thinking about how to get into the Christmas Spirit, so you might as well take a minute now (while you have the time and aren't running around like crazy trying to get all the things done for the holiday) to read this collection of novellas by Carla Kelly. While I certainly enjoyed some of the stories more than others, each was cute and well written. Of course since it's a novella and there isn't much time, there isn't a lot of time for the characters to fall in love. So in some of the stories that feels very rushed, while other ones, like "An Object of Charity" and "Make a Joyful Noise" didn't feel that way. Well, they might have, but those were my favorite in this collection.
These were clean and uplifting stories, so if you have the time why not give them a shot?

About Author Carla Kelly:

Award-winning author Carla Kelly is a veteran of the New York and international publishing world. The author of more than thirty novels and novellas for Donald I. Fine Co., Signet, and Harlequin, Carla is the recipient of two Rita Awards (think Oscars for romance writing) from Romance Writers of America and two Spur Awards (think Oscars for western fiction) from Western Writers of America. She is also a recipient of a Whitney Award for Borrowed Light and My Loving Vigil Keeping.

Blog Tour: Mormon Origami by Todd Huisken

Mormon Origami by Todd Huisken

Book Description:

There are more things to make from Sunday meeting programs than airplanes and fortune tellers; now your kids can fold CTR shields, pioneer handcarts, or the Salt Lake Temple!

Mormon Origami provides 25 simple to intermediate origami designs from the Book of Mormon and Church history. These designs can be used by teachers and parents as lesson handouts or activities to help children be reverent. This unique skill will entertain and help illustrate principles as you include these gospel-oriented designs in your lessons, activities, and everyday fun!

Review:

I jumped at the opportunity to review Mormon Origami when I saw the cool designs on the cover, and because I thought my kids would really enjoy it. When it first arrived, I let my kids have at it themselves. They had fun with it, although many of the designs were above their skill level. I thought all Level 1 items would be easy, but when I sat down with my kids I'll admit that I got lost a few times. We used 3x3 origami paper. That is very small for most of the designs in this book. Stick to regular sized paper (cut into a square if the shape requires that you start with a square), and you'll have a much easier time and a more fun sized result.

I like how there are some quiz questions/trivia notes at the top of each design. It makes the activity more meaningful.

Mile 21 by Sarah Dunster

Book Description:

The singles ward is the last place Abish wants to be. But after the unexpected death of her husband (and after being kicked out of her mom’s place), she has to move into single-student housing to finish up her schooling. Maybe training for a marathon and winning the heart of the handsome executive secretary are exactly what Abish needs to get a personal best.

Review:

I haven't read a book in awhile that I totally devoured, but Mile 21 was so good that I didn't want to put it down! I picked it up from the post office on my lunch break, and was immediately sucked in. I couldn't wait for work to be over so I could get back to reading. I stayed up way too late to finish it, but it was worth it.

I loved that the setting was one I was familiar with. It was a fun throwback to my junior college days. Some of the references had me laughing out loud. I would love for my old roommates to read it to see what they think.

I really enjoyed the mix of emotions Dunster portrayed-such an emotional book! So many sad things happened, but there was always a glimmer of hope! I loved the characters and the author's whit. I am so happy to own a copy that I can read again and again.

About Author Sarah Dunster:

Blog Tour: Consider the Blessings by Thomas S. Monson

Consider the Blessings by Thomas S. Monson

Book Description:

If you ask people what they love most about President Thomas S. Monson’s teaching style, chances are they’ll say something about the personal experiences he relates. The accounts President Monson shares are always true, taken from his own life or the real lives of other people. Those warm, memorable accounts have truly become a hallmark of his messages.

Who can forget the woman who saved one of the two sticks of gum Elder Monson passed out to youth in postwar Germany? Or the neighbor who returned a box of baseballs to young Tommy as a thank-you for his kindness to her? Or the father who declined to attend a “Mormon” meeting with his family but had his heart softened by a message he heard on a radio that was actually broken?

In celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of his call as an Apostle, Consider the Blessings presents fifty of the true accounts President Thomas S. Monson has shared over the years. With beautiful photographs and heart-touching content, this is a book to treasure with the whole family.

Review:

President Thomas S. Monson has lived such a full life and has had so many remarkable experiences. I love listening to him share these experiences, so I was excited to read this collection.

Consider the Blessings is a beautiful book, and not just visually. Each story has a great life lesson. Some of the stories were familiar to me, but many were new. The accompanying pictures were an excellent addition to each story, and I loved how no matter if you read one story or ten in a sitting, you came away uplifted.

I think this book would be an excellent resource for Family Home Evening. Sometimes it's hard to come up with a lesson that my kids have the attention span for, but many of these stories are brief and relatable.

As I read, I pictured the way President Monson would tell the story. He is such a great story teller, and knowing that the stories are true experiences makes me want to be a better person, and reach out to those around me. It's the little things in life that make a difference. We should be ever mindful of those in need, and always follow promptings.

About the Author:

President Thomas S. Monson was set apart as the sixteenth President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in February 2008. He had previously served for twenty-two years in the First Presidency of the Church, after having been a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles since October 1963. Five years after his call to the Twelve, he was given a special assignment for the work of the Church in Europe, requiring many visits with members behind the Iron Curtain. He was instrumental in the construction of the Freiberg Germany Temple and in advancing the Lord’s work in other eastern European countries that were part of the communist bloc. He also served as chairman of the Scriptures Publication Committee and supervised the process that resulted in the new editions of the scriptures. His ministry has been characterized by his compassion for the needs of individuals and his gift for one-on-one service. President Monson and his wife, Frances, are the parents of three children, grandparents of eight, and great-grandparents of eight.

Review: Hadley-Hadley Benson by Jody Wind Durfee

Hadley-Hadley Benson by Jody Wind Durfee

Book Description:

When Maddi Benson moves in next door to Jaxon Quayle, neither of them knows how much life is about to change. Jaxon knows he should date only girls who share his faith, but as he gets to know Maddi he wants his new neighbor to be more than a friend. To make things even more complicated, there’s Maddi’s twin brother Hadley (or Hadley-Hadley, as he calls himself), who has special needs and always seems to be hanging around, and Jaxon’s pal Tanner, who feels more than a little left out. Jaxon feels hopeful when the Bensons begin to consider joining the Church, which would solve at least one of his problems. But just when things seem to be working out, a horrible prank seems to make everything fall apart, leaving Maddi and Jaxon caught in the middle of doubt and faith, hurt and forgiveness, friendship and love.

Review:

I wasn't sure what to expect from Hadley-Hadley Benson when I received the copy for review. I liked the cover, but found the title to be a little strange. However, once you start reading it, the title makes perfect sense, and is really a good fit for the book.

Jody Wind Durfee's debut novel is very good YA Fiction. The main character (and many others) are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS). Religion takes a big enough part in the story that readers not familiar with the Church and its beliefs might be a little confused at times, but it is an excellent story that could tug at any reader's heart.

The characters are excellent! Though some of the story has lighter teen issues, there are some serious situations that really pull a reader in. Having a character with Autism was somewhat unique, and in some ways Hadley's actions were eye opening.

Hadley-Hadley Benson is a touching story with good lessons. Congrats to Jody Wind Durfee on her debut novel. I look forward to reading more of her work!

Tour Schedule
Chasing Hope by Kathryn Cushman

Book Description:

A Personal Drama of Shattered Dreams and Second Chances

A talented runner fully committed to Olympic dreams, Sabrina Rice's future was shattered by a devastating diagnosis. One forfeited scholarship and several years later, she has new goals and dreams that have nothing to do with running--something that's become far too painful to think on. Until the day she sees Brandy Philip running across the community college campus, easily outpacing security. Sabrina immediately recognizes world-class speed, and it's all the more painful that it belongs to a teenage graffiti artist. When a chance encounter brings the two young women together, Sabrina becomes Brandy's best hope for staying out of juvenile hall. Soon, Sabrina begins to feel an uncomfortable nudge that her new life is just about to be toppled...that God may be calling her to minister to this talented but troubled girl.

Review:

Chasing Hope is a touching story about a rebel who is nearly a lost cause, and the young adult who, against her better judgement, takes her on.

I'm not much of a runner, but my limited experience helped me relate in a small part to the running aspects of the story.

This is Christian YA fiction, and I thought Cushman did a great job of smoothly integrating the spiritual parts with the rest of the story. All aspects of the story flow well, and the religious parts aren't preachy.

I liked the characters and especially enjoyed the epilogue that showed how everything worked out.

Chasing Hope is clean and an enjoyable read. I'm looking forward to reading more of Cushman's work.

Excerpt:

He seemed to find this amusing, because he grinned, then finally leaned back against his chair. “How’d you do on that psychology exam?” He had a dimple in his left cheek.

“I’m feeling pretty good about it.” She took a sip of her decaf Earl Grey. “How about you?”

“Well, let’s just say—” he unleashed another grin—“I think I could use a study buddy for the next one. You know anyone who might be willing to help me?”

“I . . . uh . . . think I might.”

He held her gaze and continued to smile. “I was hoping you’d say that, too. You’re just full of the answers I want to hear today.”

“Thanks,” she sort of squeaked, “I do my best to be helpful.” It was impossible not to smile when she looked at him.

“Well, if that’s the case, then what if I—” He turned his head slightly toward the window just over Sabrina’s shoulder. “Wow, what the . . . ?”

Sabrina turned to see what had caught his interest. A girl was racing through the middle of the campus, her legs pumping at an impressive rate. Her shoulder-length hair was bleached white in the front and dyed jet black in the back, and it whipped up and then back with each stride. She jumped down a set of four steps, landed cleanly, and picked the pace right back up, hardly missing a beat. In her left hand she held what looked to be an aerosol can.

A campus security guard rounded the building behind her. Behind her and losing ground fast. In spite of the fact that he was young and appeared to be in decent shape, by the time he reached the steps the girl had jumped over, it was more than obvious his chase was a lost cause. He stopped, doubled over with hands on knees, gasping for air and shaking his head.

“Did you see that? That girl was fast!” Koen’s voice grew louder with admiration. “I’m thinking she must have been part gazelle or something. Can you believe that?”

Sabrina looked down at the table. “No, I don’t think I can.” She started gathering her things. “I’ve got to go.”

Excerpt

Natasha sighed. “You don’t need to stay until Detective Bentley comes.”

His eyebrows rose. “You want to be alone with the detective?”

Natasha grabbed a glass from the cupboard and filled it with water from the door of the fridge. “I just don’t want Jace and Lily to wait too long.” She turned to face him, taking a sip of the cold water. Tony held her gaze with his warm stare and edged a step closer.

“I wanted to make sure that you’re okay.”

“I’m fine.” Natasha clutched the glass in her palm. “I can take care of myself.”

Why was she lying to him? She tried to shoo him away, when she really wanted to beg him to stay until Alex was apprehended and maybe even after that. Tony set the water bottles on the counter.

“Oh, I don’t doubt you can take care of yourself, but maybe it’s time to let someone else help.” He took two more steps toward her.

She could smell his PS cologne. She’d given him a bottle the first year they were married and told him it was her favorite scent. The fragrance brought back tender memories she wanted to displace and plugging her nose right now might be a little awkward. Natasha raised the glass to her lips to try to block the tempting aroma and create some distance between them. Why was Tony still wearing the same brand?

“What if I want to take care of you?” Tony asked.

Sounds wonderful. She took a long drink, but it didn’t quench the heat in her face.

Tony took the glass from her fingers and set it on the counter. “What if I want to take care of you?” he repeated quietly. He gently took hold of her palm and studied her face for the correct answer.

“I think you’re too late,” Natasha whispered, studying his pressed cotton shirt to avoid his handsome face. Her hand tingled. How could he still affect her like this?

Tony tilted her chin up with his free hand. “Look in my eyes and say that again.”

Lord Trowbridge's Angel

Book Description:

The very handsome and very bored Lord Trowbridge knows something is missing in his existence. When he is asked by a friend to escort the seemingly quiet Miss Sophie Edwards to her first ball, he has no idea she possesses the key that will unlock him. It is her secret weapon.

Once he sees his own inner workings, his life unfolds in a different manner. He will do anything to capture the love of his “angel.” Unfortunately, his old life and the shibboleths of the ton stand in his way. As he wades through these afflictions, Sophie is courted by another man. Who will she choose? How can he possibly show his love for her in a way as original and unique as she is? What are Sophie's feelings for him?

Book Review:

I love regency romance, and there is nothing better than clean regency romance. While I'm not sure I would uncategorically put this in the clean genre, most people probably would. It was a little too lusty for me. There was no sex, just kissing and talk of having a mistress. However, when I read a book, I want my leading man to be, well, above such things I guess. There didn't seem to be much to Frank (although I loved how Sophie called him "Gorgeous Frank" and to his face), which was kind of the point of the story. He realized that there wasn't much too him, and he set about trying to be a better person for Sophie, and for himself.

Sophie has trust issues, and is really naive, but a sweet and kind person who will stand up for what she believes in. She was really forgiving after meeting with, and talking to Frank's mistress. Why society was okay with the man having a mistress is beyond me, but no one had a problem with it...guess that is sort of true today as well.

So, if you like regency novels, and don't mind mistresses, give the book a shot.

Praise for Lord Trowbridge's Angel

"Vandagriff's recipe for spinning a delightful story with so many unexpected twists and involvements is truly masterful." ~willsand

"Ms. Vandagriff is a master of description. She understands men and women and the nuances between them." ~ L. Glenn

"Vandagriff is quickly becoming an esteemed name on the shelves of regency romance. Lord Trowbridge's Angel is sweet, humorous, and of course romantic, and you'll become an instant fan." ~Heather Moore

Excerpt:

“Are you really so anxious for me to stay in London, then? We have scarcely conversed, my lord!”

Smiling, he brought his head down nearer to her face and whispered, “Has no one ever told you that you have the face of an angel?”

Sophie looked directly into his eyes. “You are very extravagant with your compliments, my lord. I do not know what to say, except that I am no angel.”
Trowbridge raised her chin with his fingers. “I dare you to tell me your vices.”

Looking into the cobalt eyes above her, she consulted her conscience. “I do not suffer fools. I lack patience in general, as a matter of fact. I’m afraid my manner is too abrupt for society. For instance, my lord, I must say I really do not think you should judge by appearances. People with angelic faces can be quite horrid on the inside.” She reminded herself of this fact as she studied his perfectly drawn eyebrows.

At that moment, they were rejoined by Lady Melissa. “Oh, my dearest Sophie! I do so long to have a comfortable coze. You must come for tea tomorrow afternoon. Have you been long in Town?”

“I arrived two days ago. I should be happy to come for tea tomorrow.”

Sophie’s friend turned her attention to Lord Trowbridge. “My lord, how is it you know my friend?”

“I am her brother-in-law’s heir. At least, until he has male offspring,” the viscount said. “He thought we would suit. We met only this evening, and already Miss Edwards tries to deceive me. She insists she is no angel. What say you?”

Lady Melissa giggled. “An angel? Sophie? She is a very good girl to be sure, my lord. But not an angel by any account!”

“Oh, I am undone,” exclaimed Sophie, holding the back of her hand to her forehead. “All is lost.”

“I will consider her angelic until I have evidence to the contrary,” Lord Trowbridge insisted.

About Author G.G. Vandagriff:

gg vandagriff I realize that I am one of those rare people in the world who gets to live a life full of passion, romance, suspense, angst, fulfillment, humor, and mystery. I am a writer. Every day when I sit down at my computer, I enter into a world of my own making. I am in the head of a panoply of characters ranging from a nineteen-year-old Austrian debutante (The Last Waltz) to a raging psychopath (The Arthurian Omen) and four women at once in The Only Way to Paradise. Then there are the feisty heroines of my Regency romances . . .

I am a traditionally published,award-winning, best-selling writer who has recently gone Indie. I enjoy genre-hopping, having published a genealogical mystery series, two women's fiction novels, an historical epic, two suspense novels, five Regency romances, and a couple of non-fiction offerings. With a BA from Stanford and an MA from George Washington University in International Relations, I somehow stumbled into finance. But, once my husband was through law school, I never wanted to do anything but write and raise kids. Now the kids are gone, but (even better) there are four grandchildren who provide my rewards for finishing a manuscript. Aside from the grandchildren, my favorite things include: Florence, Italy; snow storms; Oreos; real hot chocolate; sweaters; Sundance Resort; lilacs; and dachshunds.

MissionHome.com

Deseret Book announced that they are sponsoring the new website MissionHome.com for missionaries and their families. Here is their press release.

MissionHome.com provides new resources for missionaries and their families
Where you serve is not as important as how you serve.

Salt Lake City, UT (September 17, 2013) – The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints currently operates over 400 missions with more than 75,000 missionaries serving throughout the world. When the missionary age change was announced in the October 2012 general conference, a new wave of prospective missionaries began preparing for the moment they would receive their call.

After receiving the call, missionaries and families often begin their search for specific information on that mission.
Until now, there has not been a centralized site to learn about the culture and people of each mission area.  On October 1st, 2013 Deseret Book Company will launch an online missionary website, MissionHome.com.

MissionHome.com focuses on each phase of missionary service—prepare, serve and return. It includes helpful hints to prospective missionaries including tips for how to pack efficiently and how to prepare to leave as well as inspiring and authentic experiences from former missionaries.  A complete mission directory, created by missionaries who themselves have served in that area, provides information about local customs, food, transportation, safety, and many other insights.

“We saw a way that we could provide a gathering place for missionaries and the families of missionaries to become acquainted with the area where they would be serving as well as provide other unique resources,” said Laurel Christensen Day of Deseret Book Company, “and MissionHome.com was born.”

MissionHome.com is easy to use and provides a library of information for prospective and returning missionaries as well as help to families of those currently serving (a section for senior couples will be coming soon). Familiar LDS authors as well as recently returned missionaries and past mission presidents will be regular contributors to the site.

In addition to great free content and resources, families will be able to send care packages directly to their missionaries with guaranteed delivery from Deseret Book. Service is available to most missions.

For more information on Mission Home, visit www.missionhome.com.

Book Blast: Just Ella by Annette K. Larsen

Just Ella

Just Ella by Annette K. Larsen

Book Summary: A Proper Romance Ariella was only looking for a distraction, something to break up the monotony of palace life. What she found was a young man willing to overlook her title and show her a new and vibrant way of life. But when her growing feelings for Gavin spiral out of control and clash with the expectations of her station, she will discover that the consequences of her curiosity are far more severe than she’d imagined. I watched in helpless horror as two guards hauled Gavin to his feet and dragged him from the room. My voice was frozen, unable to protest as another guard took hold of my arm, leading me upstairs. From the confines of my room, I stared into the darkness beyond my window, hoping to catch one more glimpse of Gavin. He was gone, and I wondered if he would have been better off if he had never met me. I write clean romance. Why? Because that’s what I love to read, but over the years I’ve discovered it’s quite a challenge to find good clean romance. I believe it’s a genre that many people are looking for and too few authors are writing. My first novel, Just Ella, took me many years to write because I wanted it to be more than just a cutesy love story. I wanted it to have depth, to feel genuine. Hopefully I succeeded, but you’ll have to be the judge.

Praise for Just Ella

"I fell in love with this book. Treat yourself to something wonderful. You can't go wrong with Just Ella!" ~Inspired Kathy from I Am A Reader, Not A Writer

"By far one of the best romance novels I've ever read. Pulls you in with great, likable characters and keeps you going with a sweet and exciting love story--plus a good plot to give it even more substance. Full of those tender moments you want to go back and read again, plus exciting moments, clever humor, and some suspense as well." ~Jana Miller

"Annette Larsen writes a love story that takes time, is complicated, and yet still sweeps you up in the romance (without the cheese, thank you). It's compelling and emotional and sweet and you will love every page." ~Kimi

Excerpt “Now, wait just a minute. You can’t just plunge into a pool of water.” “Why not?” I should have said something cleverer, but I felt a bit scatterbrained, all thoughts having fled when Gavin’s arm went around me. He made a noise of exasperation. “Why not, she asks. Because, Princess, what’s going to happen when you show up for your lessons completely drenched? Or, what happens when we both show up on the palace grounds completely drenched? I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to have to explain that to anybody.” Unfortunately, he had a point. “Don’t call me Princess.” He had been so relaxed today, so willing to be himself and let me be myself. I hated that he felt the need to remind me of my rank. I was tempted to be angry and walk away but I also wanted to see how long he would keep his arms around me. Simply out of curiosity, of course.

annette Author Annette K. Larsen I was born in Utah, but grew up in Flagstaff Arizona and St.

About Author Joan Holub:

I graduated from college in Texas with a fine arts degree, and then freelanced as an art director at a graphic design firm for eight years. I dreamed of working in children’s books, so I moved to New York City and became associate art director in Scholastic trade books, where I designed books for children and worked with editors and illustrators. It was a great job. I illustrated my first published children’s book in 1992 and soon began illustrating full time. I began completing manuscripts and mailing them out to publishers in the early 1990s. In 1996, I sold my first two manuscripts — Boo Who? A Spooky Lift-the-Flap Book (Scholastic) and Pen Pals (Grosset & Dunlap). Yippee! Now I write full time and have written and/or illustrated over 130 children’s books. Creating books that entertain, inform, and interest children (and me) is a fabulous job that I truly love.
