Praise for The Complete Amish Wedding Series:

"I had trouble putting the book down. I enjoy the stories about the trials in their lives and the way they rise above them with a little assistance from Gott. Nice clean romances are a great to get away and relax. Thank you for the Great read." ~Teresa Thornock (Goodreads)

Excerpt:

"You're the most beautiful woman I've ever seen," Samuel remarked. That was a bold statement from an Amish man. But Samuel's feelings were undeniable. Samuel knew that modesty was the Amish way. He'd been brought up on the plain life. Simple service to God. And while Samuel's feelings about himself were humble in nature, his feelings for Ruth were anything but. Ruth meanwhile was no fan of attention. She was naturally shy. Samuel had managed to coax her out of her shell though. Still, Ruth was hardly comfortable in the spotlight. It was a mystery to everyone else why Ruth was such a wallflower. She had so much going for her, she just didn't seem to realize it. "Now Samuel, there's no need to exaggerate," Ruth replied, modestly. "Who says I'm exaggerating?" Samuel continued. "I've waited my whole life to meet a woman like you. And now that I have, it would be a shame not to appreciate you." "Are you trying to make me blush?" Ruth wondered. "No. I'm just trying to make you feel as good as you make me feel," Samuel said. "I'd be careful with your expectations. If you let them get too high, you're bound to be let down," Ruth replied. "It's too late. My expectations are already through the roof," Samuel admitted. "But don't worry, I can't imagine getting let down by you." "It must be interesting looking at life through your eyes," Ruth remarked. "What can I say? Love brings a rose colored tint to everything," Samuel replied. "Don't you agree?" "Just because I'm not as vocal, doesn't mean I love you any less," Ruth said. "How much do you love me?" Samuel wondered. "So much that it scares me sometimes," Ruth admitted. Samuel was confused. "What's there to be scared about?" "Are you kidding? You know the road it's taken us to get here. So after all the bumps, to finally be with you, to finally turn my heart over, to let my feelings be exposed is both exciting and terrifying," Ruth explained. It was true. Ruth and Samuel had found the most roundabout way of getting together. They had been friends for the longest time. Part of a tight knit group of friends that had grown up together in Lancaster. So Ruth and Samuel didn't want to do anything to jeopardize their friendship. They'd seen two of their close friends date in the past. But when their relationship went south, the friendship was ruined as well. Ruth and Samuel didn't want the same thing to happen to them. So Ruth and Samuel dated other people. They did not have much luck finding love though. There were a lot of first dates, but very few second dates. After a while, Ruth and Samuel started to lose hope that they'd ever meet their match. That's when after a lot of hemming and hawing about risking their friendship, Ruth and Samuel finally gave in to the feelings they had for each other. Ruth and Samuel's first date was the best either one had ever experienced. They were a great match. With so much in common. And they made a wonderful couple. It was hard to believe they'd been so afraid to get together. In the end, their friendship only added to the relationship they were building. And ever since then, Ruth and Samuel had been nearly inseparable. Now almost a year in, Ruth and Samuel couldn't imagine being with anyone else. They made each other happier than they ever thought possible. But that didn't mean Ruth was without her worries. Samuel was always there with optimism abound though. "That's how I know we're meant for us each other. Because we know what else is out there. And none of it compares to being with you." Ruth smiled. "You're the sweetest man I've ever met."

Blog Tour: Warrior's Moon by Jaclyn M. Hawkes

Warriors Moon
Warrior's Moon
Medieval Historical Romance by Jaclyn M. Hawkes

Book Description:

They loved each other desperately.
Never in all the kingdom has there been a more brave and protective champion. Nor such a loyal and capable maiden.
He rescued her the first time when she was three years old in a killing storm. Years later, he was still occasionally rescuing her. 'Twas in him to be a hero, and she had a pure intrepid way of getting into the kinds of scrapes that took rescuing. With such a brawny, masculine guardian around, 'twould have been a fair pity to waste the gallantry anyway.
Their childhood friendship between two young peasants had grown into a devotion few are ever blessed to experience. It was strong enough to withstand all their dark age held—danger, feudalism, disease, and unfair oppression.
Or is it strong enough? They truly loved each other desperately.
They loved their kingdom more.

Review:
I wasn't expecting to like this book, and it took me a while to convince myself to read it (and to get into it), but I'm glad I did. I have a thing for medieval books, especially with a strong female lead. This was one of those, but it also had a strong male lead, which doesn't always happen together. While I love medieval books, I sometimes had to wonder if that is when this was really set. Occasionally the way things were said had me wondering, and sometimes the way the characters acted. Also, would people have known about harems? I mean, few could read and there was no printing press or anything...people didn't travel far, so...Anyway, it was a sweet story of love and duty. Don't read the description and decide about the book. Read other reviews and decide. The description can sometimes make a book sound better than it is, but in this case it's the opposite. The book was way better than what the back says it's about. Content wise Hawkes keeps it clean. She deals with not so pleasant topics, but does it tastefully. There is also some swearing, but it's used correctly (meaning she used the words to their actual definition) so maybe that makes it not really swearing. In any case, normally swearing really bothers me, but how it was used in this book didn't.

Praise for Warrior's Moon:

"This book has adventure, memorable characters, and tons of action. There is even romance! I absolutely loved it!!!" ~Laura (Goodreads)

"I loved this book! Great characters, I love a strong female lead. I really enjoy all of Jaclyn Hawkes books, but I must say this in one of my favorites!" ~ KMon (Amazon)

Book Review: No One to Trust by Lynette Eason

Book Description:

Summer Abernathy wakes up one morning to find her husband missing, three men in her home intent on finding him, and the life she's been living based on a lie. Which Kyle Abernathy did she marry? The computer programmer she met in line at the bank? Or the one who was apparently using that image as a cover story?

The search for her husband--and answers--takes Summer ever deeper into a world of organized crime where people are used one moment and discarded the next. And with her deepest relationship of trust already shattered, Summer doesn't know who to believe.

Book Review:

Another winner by Lynette Eason! This book had a slightly different feel to it because the story was about trust, not finding love, like her other books. The main characters were already married, and so I loved how she focused on important issues that do come up in marriage, whether dealing with organized crime or not :) I will admit that Summer bothered me at times, but it was still a book I didn't want to put down, and that I would read again. Christian Suspense Fiction keeps this a clean story, and Eason writes it well.

Blog Tour: Power Parenting in the LDS Home by Randal A. Wright

*Guest Post*

Book Description:

The best wisdom comes from experience. Here Dr. Randal Wright has compiled the experiences of over 500 adults and their responses to his question: What parenting worked and what didn’t work in your parent’s home? Each chapter is based on the most commonly repeated mistakes and successes to help you become the successful parent you want to be.

Guest Post:

Be an Example
By Randal A. Wright

A few years ago I was asked to speak at a Know Your Religion in Mesa, Arizona. Earlier that day, I spoke to the Dobson high school seminary classes in Chandler. My topic was the importance of being a good example. That night after the KYR talk, I decided to go see a movie that several LDS friends had highly recommended. As I pulled up to the theater, I noticed most of the movies were R-rated along with the PG-rated one that I had come to see. As I walked up to the ticket booth, I saw a poster for a well advertised, highly acclaimed historical R-rated movie. For a split second, the thought passed through my mind, “You are in Tempe, Arizona and don’t know one person here. No one would ever know which movie you went to see.” Immediately, another thought came to mind. “Yes, at least two people would know—Heavenly Father and me.” I walked up to the ticket booth and told the teenage worker that I wanted one ticket to the PG-rated movie. When I said that, the young man started to smile, as if pleased with my choice. I wondered why he cared which movie I saw. As he handed me my ticket, he said, “Thanks, Brother Wright.” Startled, I asked him how he knew who I was. He said he was at the talk I had given to the seminary students earlier that day. A tremendous feeling of relief rushed through me. I thanked my Heavenly Father for helping me have the courage to resist temptation

After the movie, I imagined what the result would have been if I had made the wrong movie choice that night. I believe at the very least the young man would have lost respect for me, and thought I was a hypocrite. I then thought of a far worse scenario. What if his parents would have preached one thing to him and then did the opposite themselves?

Many years ago, President George Q. Cannon taught, “Where parents set proper examples to their children, and with those examples join good precepts, the influence is felt throughout the lives of their children. There may be some who will forget or disregard that which is shown and taught them, but they will be the exceptions. As the children grow in years, they will think about the examples and precepts of their parents. Increasing years will add weight to all that they have said and done.”

Years ago I had the privilege of serving with President Kent Richards in the San Antonio Mission presidency. He is a direct descendant of Willard Richards, a 5th generation mission president and now a general authority. I wondered how one man could have so many faithful descendants and what we could learn from him? A statement made by Brigham Young about Willard may answer those questions: “He was as true and unwavering in his course as the sun is to the earth. There is not a shade of deviation from the principles of righteousness.”

About the Author:

Randal Wright has been fascinated by the study of families for many years. Seeking ways to raise righteous children led to his receiving a B.S. and M.S. with emphasis in the family area and then a Ph.D. in Family Studies from Brigham Young University. He worked for many years as an Institute director for the Church Education System and taught at BYU in the religion department. He has written several books in the past on family topics including Families in Danger: Protecting Your Family in an X-rated World, Building Better Homes and Families and The Case for Chastity: Helping Youth Stay Morally Clean. He has spoken across the United States, Canada and England and has been a frequent speaker at BYU Campus Education Week and the Especially for Youth program for many years. Randal and his wife Wendy live in Austin, Texas and are the parents of five children and sixteen grandchildren.

Book Review: The Dancing Master by Julie Klassen

The Dancing Master

Book Description:

Leaving London, dancing master Alec Valcourt moves his mother and sister to remote Devonshire--but is stunned to discover that dancing is prohibited! He finds an unlikely ally in Miss Julia Midwinter, but her questions about his past are becoming harder to evade. Together, can they bring new life to this quiet village--and heal long-kept-secret scars?

Review:

To start with, the cover is great and the book synopsis sounds really good. That's about all I can recommend from this book. First of all, it's way too long (and I love to read, I just read an almost 600 pg book today with no problem). It took forever to get through and I still haven't figured out why. All I know is that reading on my kindle I would think, "It's got to be wrapping up now" and I'd look and see I was only 50% of the way through the book. This seems to be common for this author. However, in her other books I at least liked the main characters. I can't say that for this one. Alex and Julia didn't have much to recommend them. They fit with the time period, but were too stuck up for my taste. Julia was selfish and unfeeling to everyone but her self, and she didn't really change much by the end. Alex had some good qualities, but was a a little too high and mighty for my taste. Although, everything I didn't like, I can see why it was written that way, so to some it might appeal. Content wise it was clean. No language, minimal violence, and maybe two kissing scenes. That is one thing to recommend for Alex. He always acted like a gentleman.

Blog Tour: Reverently, Quietly by Pamela Jensen

Tour Schedule
Book Description:

When the wiggles come and boredom strikes, it can be difficult for little ones to sit through long church meetings. Reverently, Quietly not only keeps boredom at bay, but also instructs and invites the Spirit. Containing drawing activities, matching games, and coloring pages, all Church-centered, this is a quiet book that all children will enjoy!

Review:

I'm a little torn on quiet books since ultimately I want my kids to sit reverently while listening to the speakers at church. Giving them something to distract them seems to defeat my goal. But, since I haven't figured out how to get them to focus on speakers yet, I like to have at least something on hand for the kids to draw with when their attention wanders.

I just received a copy of Reverently, Quietly earlier this week, so we've only been able to test it at home so far. But, it offers a variety of quiet activities that seemed  to hold my kids' attention while teaching them stories from the scriptures. Younger children could use it mainly as a coloring book, while children who can read can fill in answers to questions with the assistance of their scriptures.

I really liked how references were listed to help the kids find answers they needed. It was a good opportunity to show my six-year-old how he can look things up in the scriptures. I'm not sure he'd do that on his own at this point, but it was a good experience to share with him.

It's not a very big book, but if finding/creating your own activity pages isn't something you like to do, this is an inexpensive option for a quiet book.

Book Review: The Brides of Chance Collection by Kelly Eileen Hake, Tracey V. Bateman & Cathy Marie Hake

The Brides of Chance Collection by Kelly Eileen Hake

Book Description:

Savor this delightful collection packed with brothers and brides. The Chance brothers enjoy ranch life in California and are not searching for brides – until brides come to them like damsels in distress, pulling at their tender heartstrings. Will any of the rough-around-the-edges brothers stand a chance of barring their hearts from love as they offer a hand of compassion?

Book Review:

I had read one of these books awhile ago and had no idea there were more! I love getting to know each character in the family. Even those these stories were written by different authors, they flow together and fit very well. Some were better than others, and even for Christan Fiction some were really preachy, but they were well written and enjoyable. This is a book that took awhile to get through, because it was separate stories, and I found I could read other books at the same time, so it didn't completely hold my attention, but it was a good clean read. I also found that reading all the books together it seemed a little more unbelievable with how everyone got hooked up. I probably wouldn't have thought that had I read them separately.

Blog Tour: The Gathering: End's Beginning by Randy Lindsay

*Interview*

Tour Schedule
Book Description:

Robert Williams didn't expect an early honorable release from his mission, but upon his return home, he sees the reason for the surprise decision. Unemployment, rampant violence, and frequent food shortages have put the United States on the brink of another civil war. As the threads of society unravel, the Williams family must adapt to drastic changes as the long-foretold gathering begins to take place.

Author Interview:

*What inspired you to write The Gathering: End’s Beginning?
Part of it is that apocalypse and post-apocalypse tales are my favorite kind of story. But I also noticed that all prophecies about of the future picture a grim fate. I wanted to put together a story about an average family who face the apocalypse and survive. I wanted to create a story that gives my readers hope no matter what situation they face.

*Who is your favorite character in your books, and why?

That's easy; Calvin McCord. I'm not much of a fan of politics. Calvin is an old soldier who is now serving his country in Washington. He's the kind of person I would like to see representing us in government. For him it's all about making this country as great as it can be and he's not afraid of stepping on a few toes to make that happen.

*What are your hopes/goals as an author, and what other projects do you have in mind?

My goal as an author is to entertain people. Anytime someone tells me they laughed, or cried, or got chills from what I wrote, I know I succeeded. My hope is that I can write a story that really connects with my readers. Something that they will remember even years from now.

As for projects, I have a dozens of stories I want to write and hopefully get published. I'm about half finished with what I call a murder-comedy about two friends who solve mysteries in Hollywood. However, my wife keeps urging me to work on my story about Mormons in space. I won first place for it in the LDStorymakers First Chapter contest in 2011.

*Do you have any unusual habits while you write?

I talk to myself. Well, really I'm just reading dialogue to make sure it sounds good. Other than that I don't really have any unusual writing habits. However, I am unusually creative. My wife routinely points out that EVERYTHING is a story to me. And she's right. Tell me a joke and there's a chance I turn it into a story. Mention the title of a song to me and thirty seconds later I have an idea for a novel. The result is that I have too many exciting projects to work on.

*What do you like to do when you're not writing?

Mostly, I like to hang out with my children and play board games. When I'm not doing that I work on family history. I am the official historian for my family.

*What is your favorite book, and why?

I have read Damnation Alley six times. Since I generally don't read a book twice, that is quite the distinction. Damnation Alley, by Roger Zelazny, is a post-apocalyptic story with armored vehicles, roving bands of lawless bikers, radioactive monsters, and a mission to save humanity. What isn't there to like about it?

*Do you like having books you enjoy made into movies? What is the best/worst adaptation you've seen?

Not really. I read. I watch movies. I don't feel a need to have one transitioned over to the other. On the other hand, I am probably a minority with my view on movie adaptations. It doesn't bother me if a movie is different from the book. Having put together a treatment for my first novel I understand that they are two seperate beasts and what works in a book doesn't usually work well in a movie.

That being said, I think the Harry Potter series was one of the better adaptations and the old 50s version of The Lost World, by Arthur Conan Doyle, was the worst. The only connection between the two seemed to be a remote location that had dinosaurs. And it was a horrible movie.

*If money were no object, where would you like to go, and what would you like to do while you are there?

Ireland. My family came over to the U.S. from Ireland. I know the city they are from, but haven't been able to dig up much more than that. I would poke around and see if I can pick up the family history trail there and visit the area to see what my ancestors saw.

Blog Tour: Does This Insecurity Make Me Look Fat? by Michelle Wilson

Does This Insecurity Make Me Look Fat?
by Michelle Wilson

 Book Description:

·         Why do clothing stores hang fun-house mirrors in their dressing rooms?
·         The laundry doesn’t cry when it’s not folded, so why should I?
·         Can I be confident even if an elevator calls me fat?

Michelle Wilson’s humorous yet poignant insights help women examine the limitations we place on ourselves out of insecurity and self-doubt. We have faith in God, but do we know that He has faith in us?

When we see ourselves with God’s eternal perspective, we can feel confident and whole—even in our imperfection. Just think what we might accomplish if we truly believe that we are more important than we know, stronger than we realize, and extraordinary in every way.

Review:

I don't spend much of my reading time on non-fiction since more often than not reading non-fiction feels like a bit of a chore. But, when I was given the opportunity to review Michelle Wilson's new book, Does This Insecurity Make Me Look Fat?, I decided it would be a good book to start the new year.

I've had a lot of changes in my life over the past year, and some of the effects have manifested themselves physically. Quite bluntly, I've gained weight and am not happy with larger clothing sizes and what hides beneath (although I am very grateful for clothing and its hiding capabilities). Feeling the "weight" of this new insecurity, I thought this book would be a good way to help me feel better about myself.

I can't say that any of the concepts Michelle addresses are new, although sometimes it's good to hear what you know, but haven't been thinking about. I really appreciated the humor and personal stories that Michelle included throughout the book to drive her points home.

A main focus of this book is perspective, and looking at ourselves as our Heavenly Father sees us. Too often we set our own expectations too high, and we beat ourselves up about not meeting these expectations.

One of my favorite quotes came in a section about guilt.

"The laundry doesn't cry when it doesn't get folded. Neither should you."

I also really enjoyed the elevator analogy that reminded us that Heavenly Father doesn't give us more than we can handle-He helps us through those hard times in our lives.

Michelle's thought about importance also stood out to me.

"I do not have to be somebody 'important' to do important things. I simply have to be me and do what He asks of me."

I also liked the reminder about the Atonement:

"Through the power of the Atonement of Jesus Christ, we may choose the paths we take and the people we want to be."

Along those lines, I also appreciated this quote:

"As you exercise more faith in yourself and in Him, you will be amazed at the things He will accomplish in you and through you."

None of what I read is a direct tip on finding more energy after I get home from work, and making better choices in what I eat, but Michelle's reminders help me know that what I see in the mirror isn't as important as what I am inside. Heavenly Father doesn't think I'm worth less because I went up a pant size. He loves me, and is always there for me.

Whatever issues might be causing you to feel insecure, there is hope. And, you are better than you think you are!

Blog Tour: The Accidental Marriage by Annette Haws

Blog Tour
Book Description:

Elliot was taller than Nina was, but not by much, and her blocky heels gave her the inch or two needed to engage him eye to eye. “I am woman. Hear me roar. Welcome to the seventies,” she said.

Standing on a Scottish tower high above the North Sea, Nina Rushforth gazed into the eyes of a lanky young man and made a big mistake—she fell in love. Six months later, she’s back in Utah with a ring on her finger, standing in front of a classroom of farm kids, discussing the dangers of dangling participles.

Instead of the sophisticated life she had imagined, Nina is keeping house in a miniscule apartment and living with a young husband who knows nothing more about being married than she does. Beset with cooking mishaps, lesson plans, and interfering in-laws, the newlyweds find themselves teetering on the brink of disaster—and neither knows know how to stop from going over the edge.

Award-winning author Annette Haws brilliantly captures the comic strife of young LDS love caught in the turbulent social crosscurrents of the 1970s. As Nina and her husband struggle with these first-year missteps, they must learn to trust the love that brought them together.

Review:

The Accidental Marriage is an interesting book. Being married, I was able to relate to parts of the newlywed couple's situation, and I think any married person could relate in some ways.

My attention was kept throughout the book, but this isn't really the type of book I usually enjoy. It was mostly a downer with all of the arguments and harsh words (between the couple and from their families). It felt like the only positive part of Nina and Elliot's relationship was physical, and there isn't much time spent on that (which I applaud-I don't want to be in the bedroom with them).

Not only was the day-to-day home life rough, but Nina's situation at work was horrible! I really felt for her. There is no question that she was at fault for some of the issues in her marriage, but it was hard not to take her side.

On the whole the story flows well, but on several occasions I felt a little lost, and wondered if I had skipped something.

I did appreciate the ending. More would have been nice, but it was hopeful.

About the Author:

After fourteen years teaching in the public school system, Annette Haws set aside her denim jumpers and sturdy shoes to pursue her interest in writing fiction. A native of a small college town on the northern edge of Utah and a people watcher from an early age, Ms. Haws examines the tribulations and the foibles of characters playing their parts on a small stage. Her first novel, Waiting for the Light to Change, won Best of State, A Whitney Award for Best Fiction, and the League of Utah Writers award for best published fiction. She’s been published in Sunstone and Dialogue. She is the mother of four above average children and is the spouse of a patient husband. She blogs at annettehaws.com.

Book Review: A Match Made in Texas

Book Description:

In Dry Gulch, Texas, 1893, a young woman with a tender heart that longs to help those in need takes it upon herself to meddle in the affairs of three acquaintances who are in dire straits. Wanting to stay anonymous, she relies on unusual methods to hire men and women of good character who she thinks can solve the problems facing her “targets.” How was she to know that her meddling would turn into a cupid’s arrow? And what will she do when her friends turn the tables on her with a matchmaking scheme of their own?
Four novellas in one volume.

Book Review:

I wanted to read this book because I'm a fan of Karen Witemeyer and wanted to know what happened to the last Archer brother. I also just read a book by Carol Cox that I liked so I was excited to see her as an author for these Novellas. Overall I liked it. It was a quick read (obviously, it's a novella) that was entertaining and fun. The content was clean. No sex, violence, or profanity. Just good old fashioned sweet kissing.
Individually I struggled with the last book Meeting Her Match. I liked Mark, the painfully shy quiet banker, but everyone else in the story really rubbed me the wrong way. I also didn't appreciate how Mark and Hannah got together. The whole town is in on it, except the two of them? Really?
A Cowboy Unmatched by Karen Witemeyer met my curiosity about Neill Archer. It was a sweet story.
An Unforseen Match by Regina Jennings threw together an almost blind woman and a man with what he thinks are ugly scars. Not my favorite, but not bad either.
No Match for Love by Carol Cox was a story with spunk! Aunt Martha is a fun down to earth character. She really made the story for me. The romance and everyone else kind of felt like side notes compared to her even though she was a minor character. I enjoyed the story though.

Book Review: The Mark of the Dragonfly by Jaleigh Johnson

Book Description:
In the scrap towns, a day's pay depends on what you find in the Meteor fields. Storms rain down objects from other lands, and ever since Piper's father died, scavenging these odds and ends is how she lives.
Until the day Piper hits gold.
Unconscious, lying in the fields amid the rubble of her carriage, is a girl. She's beautiful and well-dressed, and the Dragonfly tattooed on her wrist confirms that she's the most valuable thing Piper has ever stumbled across.
The Mark of the Dragonfly means the girl is from the Dragonfly Territories, and it also means that if Piper can get her back there, she might get a reward. Enough coin that she could start a life far from the wastelands of her scrap town.
Getting to the Dragonfly Territories isn't easy, though. The 401 train is the safest way, but Piper will have to sneak aboard, and convincing the mysterious girl to join her seems unlikely--until there's a knock on the door.
The girl is more valuable than Piper could ever have imagined. There are people who want her back. Important people. And the scary truth is, regardless of what the girl wants, these people won't stop until they have her.
Piper wants to start a new life, but running for it isn't how she thought she'd get there. And now making it to the Dragonfly Territories looks like a race that might be impossible to finish alive.

Book Review:

Lately it seems like if I ever get a book that I don't know anything about, from an author I know nothing about (unless it's Christian Fiction) I find stuff in the book that I don't appreciate, such as swearing or more passion than I think is appropriate. So when I saw The Mark of the Dragonfly on NetGalley I almost didn't read it, but I figured middle grade fiction should be okay. I'm so glad I decided to read it. The Mark of the Dragonfly is a mix between Cinder and Polar Express and some mythological thrown in. Okay, that maybe a poor description, but I don't know how else to describe it. As far as content is concerned it's clean. There is no language, lust, and while there is fighting and blood, it's not anything that I wouldn't mind a fifth grader and older reading. Don't think that it's just written for kids though. I convinced my husband to give it a try, and he told me he really likes it so far. It's well written and entertaining. The characters are strong, and the plot isn't completely predicable. In fact it went places I wasn't expecting at all. My only complaints are that sometimes it moved along a little quickly and all of a sudden some conflict was resolved and I was, "Oh..that was easy". Also, the ending didn't quite do it for me. I loved that it did end though. No cliff hanger, no obvious "this will have a sequel (although if it did I would love to read it)". It was just kind of...sweetness wrapped up in a little bow. I love happy endings, this one was just...I don't know. It came out of no where I guess. Those little things weren't enough to keep me from reading it again, or recommending it though.

Blog Tour: Come Alive CD by Mercy River

Review * Giveaway
come alive tour banner

CD Review:

I was first introduced to Mercy River at a Time Out for Women conference. I loved their sound, and their humor. Have you guys heard their spoof on the N'SYNC song Bye Bye Bye? Soooo funny. Anyway, everything that I had heard from them I liked and found it to be a soft soothing Sunday sound. Their new album Come Alive has their great sound, but it is more upbeat. For me, it's a listen to during the week CD instead of a listen to on Sunday CD, although some of the songs are religious. But they have others like Walking On Sunshine that is just happy and peppy (for lack of a better word). If you like Mercy River their new album definitely won't disappoint.

Come Alive

On the heels of their hit album Higher, Mercy River is back with mesmerizing harmonies and upbeat vocal arrangements. Their new album features inspirational favorites and original songs that highlight the talents of this singing sisterhood:

Sing It Out, Speak Life, How Deep the Father's Love For Us, Walk You Through the Night, Who I Am, Move, Holy Ground, Restless, Reason For the World, Walking On Sunshine

About Mercy River:

With 13 children between them, it’s amazing that Whitney Permann, Brooke Stone, and Soni Muller have time for anything other than runny noses, sock hunts, and prying suckers off the van floor. But music has been a part of each of their lives since childhood, and is now a strong presence in their homes. The three friends met while singing in the Jenny Phillips Choir and there found a common love for tight harmonies and sharing the gospel through song. Over the past five years, Mercy River has traveled all over the United States and Canada as a highly sought after ensemble, performing for thousands of people while testifying of the Savior. Each member of the group brings several years of experience performing, writing, and directing hundreds of firesides and concerts—as well as recording on dozens of inspirational albums. Their self-titled debut album was released in May 2008. “Beautiful Dawn,” was released in March of 2010. Their third album, “Higher” was released with rave reviews in February 2012. Mercy River is back with mesmerizing harmonies and upbeat vocal arrangements in “Come Alive”.

Blog Tour: Echo in Time by CJ Hill

Review * Giveaway
Book Summary:

Echo in Time delivers on "the possibility of an equally thrilling sequel" (Kirkus Reviews) to Erasing Time.

After being pulled 400 years into the future, twins Taylor and Sheridan have found some refuge from the government of Traventon, which used the dangerous Time Strainer to yank the girls from the past. Yet the threat of the dangerous technology still looms. Taylor and an ally, Joseph, are selected to go on a mission to destroy the time machine and weapon. But their actions before they do may have major consequences for the future and the past.

Action-packed and romantic, this futuristic sequel to Erasing Time is perfect for fans of dystopian and sci-fi novels such as The Maze Runner by James Dashner, Across the Universe by Beth Revis, and Matched by Ally Condie.

Review:

I read Erasing Time just over a year ago, and was a little worried that I'd be lost reading book two so much later. However, the author did a great job of recapping over the first few chapters.

I don't considered myself a sci-fi fan, but I've really liked this series. The time travel idea, and the crazy future depicted are intriguing. There is a lot of action in Echo in Time and the different personalities of the main characters kept their mission exciting. There were also several twists and turns that I didn't see coming that added to the excitement.

A couple of times I thought parts of the story had some great symbolism. I loved the sacrifices that were made, and the love for a wayward child. Tears came to my eyes at least once.

Although I imagine this series is going to continue, the ending of Echo in Time was satisfying-no cliffhanger that has me frustrated that there's not another book out yet.

This is a great YA series, with lots of action and a touch of romance. As always, CJ Hill writes a clean and entertaining story.

About C.J. Hill:

CJ Hill is a pen name for a YA author who is best known for writing romantic comedies. (Slayers will be her 18th published book.) Her writing has shifted away from the romantic comedy genre, so her editor thought a pen name would be a good idea. (New books will include: dangerous dragons, time travel to dystopian worlds, and flesh-eating beetles.) Since the publisher refused to let her have the pseudonym : The Artist Formerly Referred to as Princess, she chose a name to honor her mother. CJ Hill was her mother's pen name, or at least it would have been if her mother had published. Her mother wrote a few children's books and a middle grade novel but was taken by cancer before she had fully learned the craft.

Most writers' first novels aren't publishable. CJ Junior's first novel wasn't, but somehow was published anyway. Now, even though it is out of print, it remains forever available on Amazon, where it taunts her with its badness. This was another good reason to use a pen name.

CJ Hill has five children, three of whom like her on any given day depending on who is in trouble. She has lived in Arizona for the last half of her life, but is still in desert denial and hopes that one day her garden will grow silver bells and cockle shells or maybe just tomatoes.

Giveaway:

Author C.J. Hill is offering a hardcover copy of Erasing Time (Book 1) to one lucky Literary Time Out follower (U.S. Only). To enter, use the Rafflecopter form below by January 12th.
