Have you read the novella that goes
before this book? I think it's free on Amazon. Totally worth it, and
really unique in that it is completely written from letters, and
texts, and journals. Not that you need to read it before you read
True to You. The novella is
about the Bradford sisters' parents, and True to You
is the first book in the series and is about the middle sister Nora.
I'm so excited for this new series.
Nora was a super
fun quirky character. I loved that she was part geeky
librarian/genealogist, part really confident smart woman. It was fun
to grow with her during the book and to see her realize how much she
was hurt and hiding from a past relationship and how she grew
stronger in her relationship with the Lord.
So obviously (or
maybe not if this is your first Becky Wade novel) this is a Christian
fiction novel, and so there is references to religious leanings and
personal relationships with the Savior. It blended well with the
story and wasn't over-bearing or shove it down your throat.
I will say that I
felt bad for John's girlfriend, but I can't say much more without
spoilers, so I wish there was more done with that. Also, the ending
was fine but I wish there was more. Hopefully with the other two
books in the series we will get more information. I'm excited for the
other sisters' stories. This was a well done novel.
I've read a few of Becky Wade's books, and was excited to borrow my sister's copy of True to You. It was a very enjoyable read that was more than just fluff (I love fluff, but deeper can be better at times). It addresses, in varying degrees, some extremely difficult issues. I think that helped me connect to the characters on a much deeper level than I would have otherwise. In some ways, they were broken and hurting, and needed other people and God to help them through.
Wade's characters were very likable. Nora was a little quirky, but also a great person, and John was a wonderful leading man. He was very humble, and not an attention seeker even though he could have used his fame to get so much.
The faith aspect of the story was well written. It was smooth and touching with a good message about God being a part of our lives, and how we need to recognize His role.
The ending was very sweet. I felt like I should have seen it coming, but it was a nice surprise.
I can see myself reading this again, and I would love to read the other books in the series once they're released. I'm also looking forward to reading the free novella that is about Nora's dad.
