Book Reveiw: Out of the Ordinary by Jen Turano

Out of the Ordinary (Apart From the Crowd #2)
Book Description:

Miss Gertrude Cadwalader hoped her position as the paid companion to Mrs. Davenport would be easy. But as she becomes acquainted with her employer, she realizes the wealthy Mrs. Davenport has a strange tendency to be a bit light-fingered with other people's trinkets. Gertrude is relieved when Mrs. Davenport decides to have a quiet summer away from the social scene--until the woman changes her mind in order to help a young socialite launch into society.

When Gertrude is caught in the act of trying to return one of the trinkets by Mrs. Sinclair, the mother of shipping magnate Harrison Sinclair, the woman jumps to an unfortunate conclusion. Harrison is determined to mend fences with Miss Cadwalader, but he's unprepared for the escapades a friendship with her will entail.

Book Review:

I love Jen Turano. It's fun quirky writing that is a quick fluff read, and sometimes you just need a quick happy read. All of her novels seem to be the same, but that said, I know this and I'm not disappointed. I get exactly what I'm expecting when I read her books. And what I'm expecting is a fun read full of laughs and a little romance. I am questioning the name choices for the females in this particular series. They seem a little harsh. Maybe they were popular names back in the day, but if you are going to have names like Harrison and Asher for the male characters I would just think that Gertrude or Permilia wouldn't be on the radar. And honestly, that kind of was a hold up for me. The names just didn't seem to really fit the characters the way I wanted them too. There's nothing for it now, it is the second book in the series, but I'm hoping her next series will have better names.

I think I liked Harrison more than any other male main character I've read of hers. He didn't seem quite so...out of it. Don't get me wrong, he was still portrayed as a clueless human being, but that was only about the relationship, not necessarily life. He was kind and a fun character to get to know more. I loved his fashion sense, or lack thereof. And how can you not love someone who reads romance novels to get ideas on how to romance the woman they like? It's funny and it's endearing. Have you ever stopped to think about how it would really be if the guy you liked really did some of the things you read about in romance novels? I have and honestly, while it's awesome to read about, if it really happened in real life I'd either laugh or be super uncomfortable. It's really no wonder my husband makes fun of the books I read.

Again, the supporting characters make for an absolute fun read, and I'm looking forward to the next book in this series.
